Obituary

Madge Joyce Lynch passed from this life on October 17th after bravely battling cancer. She was 70 years old. Ms. Lynch was born in the rural village of Happy Grove, Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica. She was the only child of Isolyn (née Wellington) and Rupert Lynch.

As a young girl, she relocated to the city of Kingston where she attended primary and secondary school. Upon graduation, she started her career working for the Ministry of Education and met Bertram Tennent. Together they had a son and daughter, Roger and Keila.

Given Jamaica's political and economic upheaval in the 1970's, she decided to re-establish her family in New York City, following in the footsteps of her mother and step-father. Ms. Lynch completed her bachelor's degree and worked for many years for Metropolitan Life Insurance until a wintery subway accident precipitated her early retirement. She also became an active and long-standing member of the Church of God where she found a spiritual home and large community of friends.

After her mother and stepfather Alfred Minzie decided to abandon Northeast winters for a milder, post-retirement climate, she helped them relocate to the city of Loganville in Gwinnett County, Georgia. There, she helped them build and settle into their dream house and supported them until they passed away.

Madge was an avid gardener, reconnecting with her rural roots and winning several Garden of the Month awards as well as advising family and friends. Additionally, she enjoyed travelling and experiencing global culture; this was often absorbed into her excellent culinary skills.
Her warmth, grace and empathy readily put friends and strangers at ease, setting them up for dancing and competitive games of dominoes.

In addition to her children, Ms. Lynch will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Sofia and Morgan, as well as brothers, Junior and Michael Minzie, nieces and in-laws.

Visiting hours will be held from 6:00– 8:00 pm on October 24th as well as on Friday, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., in Pelham NY. A celebration of Madge's life will commence afterwards at 10 a.m. She will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery.
