Obituary

Without warning Christopher Ryan Barnett of Pelham Manor New York passed away suddenly on Saturday December 30th 2017. He was 23 years old. Christopher was born in Long Island College Hospital to Walter and Barbara Barnett. He was raised in Brooklyn with his older brother Walter IV (4 years older) whom he always looked up to in life. At the age of 3 Christopher and his family moved to Pelham Manor where he attended Siwanoy Elementary School before graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 2012.

Christopher was a gifted athlete. He played on the OLPH Church basketball team, Pelham Little League Baseball, the Pelham Varsity Basketball and Varsity Baseball teams.

He was an avid snowboarder and his brother, cousin Mathew, friends and parents would marvel at his speed as he rocketed down the mountain trails.

He loved playing with the family dogs Shadow, Jackson and Harley. His dad joked that Chris was a dog trapped in a human's body.

Christopher loved to help people and make his friends laugh. He loved helping people so much that he decided to set out to become a Physician's Assistant. He briefly attended Fordham University before transferring to University of Scranton in PA, where he was majoring in physiology.

While attending college at the University of Scranton Christopher worked part-time at a convenience store. It was while working at the store he was approached by a young lady named Katie who was buying candy as an excuse to pick up the only priceless gift in the store.… Christopher. The couple had been dating for more than two years. Christopher loved to make Katie laugh. They both loved to travel together and, most of all, "chill" with each other.
While living in West Pittston Christopher found another passion - competitive pool. He became a Level 5 pool player. His relentless drive to pursue excellence was noted by his parents and appreciated by his pool team mates at Sliderz Tavern.

Christopher will be remembered as a humble man and a gentle giant who loved to help people. He will be remembered as the person who loved to make the group laugh. He will be remembered as a caring man who loved animals and the outdoors, but most of all he will be remembered as a man who loved his family and was always there for his mom.

Christopher leaves behind his parents, Walter III and Barbara, his brother, Walter IV, his beautiful girlfriend Katie, his maternal grandma Patricia and paternal grandparents "Oma" Brigitte and "Opa" Walter Sr., and a large extended family of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Christopher's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham NY on Friday, January 5th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Saturday, January 6th at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in Christopher's memory to the ASPCA. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com.
