Tribute & Message From The Family

Nigel David Mullahy, a New York resident who lived in many places, formerly of Bohola Co. Mayo, passed away on January 12th, 2021. He was 46 years old. Born in Castlebar Hospital, Co. Mayo to Thomas and Kathleen Mullahy, Nigel was one of seven children. He was raised in Bohola where he attended Bohola National School and St. Louis Convent in Kiltimagh. He quickly started training as a hair stylist and started his own hair studio in Swinford at 19 years of age. But Nigel had bigger and better dreams for his life. He moved to New York in 1994 and worked solidly in Manhattan for his entire career. A self-made success, Nigel was a genius at his craft and earned his reputation for being the absolute best at what he did. His hard work afforded him to live the kind of full life he wanted - one spent celebrating life with family and friends, traveling extensively, shopping, and spoiling his friends, family, and especially his nieces and nephews.

In his friends words "Nigel lived a sober life, pursued happiness in all he did, loved all those he knew and was an incredible friend. He was a rockstar hair stylist and was motivated to be the best of the best!"
Nigel will be remembered as a flamboyant, generous, sharp-witted man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was brutally honest, told it like it is, and somehow did it in a way that was appreciated in the end. He was a true original and left an indelible impression on everyone he met. His absence will hurt, deeply, and he will be missed.

Nigel is survived by his parents Kathleen and Thomas Mullahy, brothers Garry, Denis, Tommy, Brendan, Darran and sister Linda, brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, relatives neighbours, friends and his beloved dog, Buddha.

A celebration of Nigel's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave in Pelham New York on Saturday January 16th from 4-7PM. Nigel will be repatriated home to Bohola on Monday January 18th 2021 where he will be laid to rest at Bohola Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nigel's name to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit pelhamfuneral.com.

Rest in peace my dear Nigel. I will come visit you in Mayo. From the first time I met you 5 years ago I felt like we had so much in common. I will miss when you say Hi Honey whats going on, how have you been? You always squeezed me in no matter how damn busy you were. I will miss our appointments every four weeks. You were the best stylist and you knew it. I loved having coffee with you and catching up on all your travels and what your next adventure was going to be. You spoke so highly about your family, dogs and friends and how you missed them all so much. I felt like I knew them too. You had the best sense of humor and always left me feeling good. You will be greatly missed and gone way too soon. Forever in my thoughts. Until we meet again. Xoxo

My deepest condolences to the entire family and everyone who is deeply hurting from his passing. i was a client for 10 years and we still stayed in touch and MOSTLY never stopped caring or LOVING him. He was a ray of sunshine and laughter in all encounters. I was blessed to have run into him so randomly by where i worked weeks ago...I said it is like he appeared out of nowhere. i could not believe it. I THANK GOD for that meeting and for us reaching out for new Year. I LOVE YOU NIGEL...keep GOD and your fellow ANGELS laughing and pray for us all left behind. I MISS YOU and my heart breaks. Until we meet again. RIP!

My deepest, sincere condolences to the family and friends. I was so saddened to hear this shocking news. Nigel was my hairdresser for almost 20 years...but he was also so much more! Nigel was a remarkable person, who touched us in so many ways. He was compassionate, talented, hardworking, witty and smart. While gone from our sight, never from our hearts.

Nigel was my stylist for many years. He was a beautiful person, so loving and caring for his family and friends. He was truly devoted to his parents and traveled to see them as often as he could. We shared many stories together, and in these strange times we became closer.
Talented beyond words, he always strived to improve his work even when it did not require it. I always looked forward to seeing him each time and it pains me that he is gone from our lives.
May he rest in peace. I loved him and will miss him.
