Tribute & Message From The Family

Antoinette Iemma of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away on December 27th, 2020. She was 63 years old. Born in New York City to Italian immigrant parents Giovanni and Rosa Iemma, Antoinette was the youngest of three children. Antoinette was raised in the Bronx where she attended St. Benedict's Elementary School and Preston High School. After graduating Preston High in the class of 1975, Antoinette would attend Queens College where she would graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Her love of all things creative would compel her to further her education with another degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where she studied Textile Design and Buying and Merchandising.

Antoinette began her dream career at Philips-Van Heusen in 1981. She spent 15 years in textile design and would eventually become Product Manager. During this time, Antoinette and her husband Joseph lived in Queens where they had their first child together, Gianna Franca. When Gianna was five years old, Antoinette and her family moved to Pelham, where they had their second child, Joe Antonio. Two of Antoinette's most defining characteristics were being a devoted mother and spirited hard worker. Antoinette was most proud of her two children, Gianna and Joe. She never once missed any of their music recitals, soccer games, or school plays, and was always their loudest cheerleader.

While raising her children, Antoinette would attain her real estate license and work as a Real Estate Broker. She loved helping others find their dream home. In 2015, Antoinette would also become a Travel Concierge at Bayside Travel in Bronxville. Antoinette believed in the power of exploring and traveling. As a concierge, she enjoyed helping people make meaningful memories through their travel and also enjoyed learning about cultures and countries through her own travel experiences.

In her spare time, Antoinette loved to cook everything and anything! She was a lifelong learner, antique collector, energetic dancer, and creative designer. She embodied all things Italian, celebrated life, and loved to create memories and spend time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as beautiful, stylish, warm, daringly unique, and exceptionally passionate. She was vivacious, magnetic, and infectiously hilarious!

Antoinette will be incredibly missed by her husband Joseph Viola, her children Gianna and Joe, her siblings Catherine and Dominic, and her large extended family. She will be missed by everyone she knew.

A celebration of Antoinette's life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY on Wednesday, December 30th from 4-8pm. For more information or to leave a condolence, please visit

The Funeral Home will be practicing recommended CDC guidelines. Seating for family will be priority, and friends will be allowed in as the space permits.

Antoinette's family will be arranging a memorial mass service at a future date. Until then, as Antoinette would say: "mangia, bevi, e felicità."

Condolence & Memory Journal

When I think of Antoinette, I just smile. She had such an infectious smile, that I couldn't help but smile right along with her! She was so proud of her children, so present, so caring, and loving. I will never forget the many class parties, where she and I talked about fashion, our parents, our kids. She was a pleasure to work with on a Pelham Preservation fundraiser. We shared a love of travel and she was so encouraging about my travel writing. I will miss seeing her at various parties and events. I will miss her beautiful smile. May she rest in peace and rise in glory with terrific shoes on!

We send our love for strength and healing to the entire family. We met through our school-aged kids and anytime we saw each other we would just click in a way that anyone who knew Antoinette would understand. She had a way of making you feel like talking to you in that moment was the most important thing in the world. This is such a rare, beautiful quality and only one of many that she shared with those who were blessed to know her. Antoinette’s fierce love for her children was unmatched.
Heaven certainly has gained a special spark of light.

Dear Antonia, I will never forget our meeting and an open house, and our instant bond over textiles, fashion, and of course all things Italian. You because an instant friend to our family, and were beyond generous with your time and gifts for our girls. You patiently showed us every house on the market, multiple times, pepper with fun lunches at Villaggio. You led us to our dream home, and remained a part of our life long after the deal was sealed. Naji and I were shocked to hear of your passing, we wish that we could have shared just one more laugh together. Our deepest condolences to your beautiful family.
May you RIP.

I had the honor of working with Antonette during a writing workshop in Cetera, Italy in 2007. I'm not a writer,
Antonette would say. She was a writer. She was one of the most beautiful and authentic writers I've ever had the honor to know. Antonette had so much energy and love for everyone. She will be forever missed and loved.

Dear Antoinette, You, my cousin, my friend, and in many ways the sister I never had. I will always treasure the wonderful carefree youth, we spent together, The endless summer days lounging on the beach, soaking up the sun, riding our bikes around our neighborhoods, catching the eye, and the flattering comments of all the young guys driving by, the long drives in your electric blue Vega talking and laughing the whole time and who can forget dancing the night away,at the disco clubs. Those are the wonderful memories I am so grateful to have shared with you and will always hold dear to my heart. Rest easy my sister, and know that you have taken a piece of my heart with you forever. Love your cousin and friend, Angela.

I hear your voice and laughter, see your smile, and feel your warmth. You were a master storyteller, a true charmer, and a constant supporter. All of this (and much more) is forever with me and I know your distinctive spirit and effortless grace will always shine through Gianna and Joe.
Love you,

It's difficult to put words to paper when someone is gone too soon. Antoinette was a beautiful soul. Warm, friendly, and always interested. While our relationship was based on our careers as realtors, it was always a genuine one. I will miss her fun sense of style and our conversations - which by no surprise - always turned back to our children and family...What a gentle soul. I can only pray for the consolation of her family and that her soul may Rest in Peace.

Dunette - It seems like just yesterday that we met in the kitchen of my parent's home in Woodhaven. Me, standing there in my pink angora sweater, and you and Joe coming home from finishing a day at Queens College......a story that has been retold many times for well over 40 years. But no one tells it like you.....just like every story or incident you share.....with just the right amount of embellishment and jargon to capture an audience. You will be greatly missed by all who know and love you,

I am deeply saddened to hear of this tremendous loss. Antoinette's smile and enthusiasm and joy for her kids, and the arts, and just life in general was infectious every time I had the great fortune to see her. Her smile always made me smile. But I know that she has passed that joy for living on to Gianna and Joe, and it brings me comfort to know that her passion for life will continue in them.

All my love and prayers are with you all as you heal and mourn for Antoinette. She will be missed.
