Loving, Husband Father and Grandfather

Thomas J. Petraglia of Bronxville, formally of Pelham, passed away on February 18th, 2020. He was 98 years old. Born in Manhattan, NY to Frank and Maria Petraglia, Thomas was the youngest of 9 children. He was raised in the Bronx where he graduated from Paul Hoffman JHS in 1936 before attending Evander Childs High School. After graduating from High School, Thomas went to work in the family business ND Rag Company. He was later drafted in the US Army where he proudly served his country during World War II. Thomas was stationed in the Germany, and after the war was awarded a purple heart, a bronze star, a WW2 victory medal, American service medal, EameService medal and good conduct medal. He would return home in 1945 where he would reenter the family business and marry the love of his life and wife of 72 years, Mary Derrico. Thomas would later be employed by the New York City Board of Education as a School Custodian, where he would retire permanently at 70 years old.

Thomas was a family man at heart. He loved watching football with the kids, bowling with friends, and most of all spending time with family. Taking care of his family was his hobby. He will be remembered as a great husband, father and grandfather, a gentle soul and a true gentleman. He loved the New York Giants and anything football. He was an armchair coach, making calls and plays in his mind. He enjoyed sitting and conversing with family and friends, telling them stories of his memorable and unforgettable life.

Thomas is survived by his wife Mary, his three children Frank (& Susan) Petraglia, Angelo (& Jessica) Petraglia, and Anne (& Steven) Sommer, his seven grandchildren Justin (& Traci) Petraglia, Christopher (& Dayna) Petraglia, Gabrielle (& Jacob) Brennan, Piper Petraglia, Indigo Petraglia, Thomas Sommer, Jarett Sommer, and three great-grandsons Harlan & Willem Brennan and Colton Petraglia. Thomas is also survived by his sister-in-law and husband Vicenza & Joseph Sudano, and sister-in-law Sylvia Derrico, along with dozens of nieces and nephews that he loved as his own. He will be missed by family, friends, and everyone that he knew.

A Celebration of Thomas's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY on Sunday February 23rd from 3-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church located at 53 Winter Hill Road, Tuckahoe NY on Monday February 24th at 10:30am. Uncle Tom, and the rest of the Petraglia family will be remembered in my prayers every night before I fall asleep.......A true and proper gentleman, who with his parents and siblings, left a legacy to be proud of.....They are all guiding us from above......A special prayer of sympathy for Aunt Mary and Uncle Tom's children (my cousins)....
